Safaikaramcharis strike enters 5th day; Kathua, other towns stinking

KATHUA, Mar 3: The indefinite strike of Safaikaramcharis Union Kathua entered the 5th day today. The Safaikaramcharis under the banner of Akhil Bhartiya Safai Mazdoor Sang led by its Kathua unit president, Som Raj sat on protest dharna in front of the Office of Municipal Council, Kathua today and raised slogans in favour of their demands .
They were demanding the permanent status of contractual employees and two and half days special salary.
The strike will continue till the fulfillment of the demands, the protestors said. Among others William,  Rakesh Kumar and Krishan Chand also addressed the protestors. They alleged that they are working since many years but the Government did not pay attention to solve their grievances and fake promises were made with them. The strike also continued in Municipal Committees Nagari, Billawar,  Basholi and Hiranagar.
Due to strike of Safaikaramcharis the heaps of garbage were seen everywhere in the Kathua and other towns causing serious problems to the people. The administration did not take any step to make alternative arrangements to clean the towns and the threat of spreading of epidemic looms large.
