Sadhotra for early settlement of EPF claims

SRINAGAR, June 4: Minister for Planning, Labour and Employment, Ajay Sadhotra has asked the officers of Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) to settle all claims of the subscribers, pending with the organization, besides taking necessary steps for making all the district offices functional early in the State.
The Minister was chairing on 77th meeting of Board of Trustees of J&K Employment Provident Fund Organization here today.
Principal Secretary Finance, Secretary Labour and Employment, Labour Commissioner, Deputy Provident Fund Commissioner, Trustees of the Board besides other officers from Finance and J&KEPFO were present on the occasion.
Underlining the need for effective implementation of the different provisions of Employees Provident Fund Act, the Minister asked the concerned officers to carry out regular inspections of the factories, established under J&K Employees Provident Fund Act, and check whether the benefits guaranteed under the Act are extending to the personnel working in these units.
Regarding introduction of pension scheme for provident fund subscribers of the State, Mr. Sadhotra directed the concerned authorities to frame the modalities after surveying the States where this scheme has been introduced and is running successfully. “It is an important issue and cannot be ignored,” said the Minister, and instructed the labour Commissioner to initiate steps for its early introduction in the State to benefit of the labourer class.
The Minister said that payment to the subscribers on retirement should be the priority and enjoined upon the officers to accelerate the recovery process so that provident fund subscribers registered with the department are benefitted.
The board also approved enhancement of interest rate to 8.5% from April, 2013 at par with Central Employees Provident Fund Organization and creation of staff of district offices.
Earlier, Labour Commissioner, who is also ex-officio Provident Fund Commissioner, gave detailed resume of the achievements and future plans of the organization.
