JAMMU, Jan 28: To commemorate the 151st birth anniversary of Sher-e-Duggar Lala Hans Raj Mahajan and 128th birth anniversary of Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan, the first Prime Minister of Jammu and Kashmir State, the Jammu Central Mahajan Sabha today organized a grand function “Mahajan Parivar Millan”, where achievers of the community were honoured. Former Union Minister Prof Chaman Lal Gupta presided over the function while Mahajan Rattan T R Gupta, former president Akhil Bhartiya Mahajan Shiromani Sabha; Kavinder Gupta, Speaker Legislative Assembly and Jangi Lal Mahajan, president Akhil Bhartiya Mahajan Shiromani Sabha, were the chief guests on the occasion. Pawan Gupta MLA, Rajesh Gupta MLA, Naresh Gupta MLC and Vibodh Gupta MLC were the special guests.
Other dignitaries who shared the dais,  included Romesh Chander Gupta, president Jammu Central Mahajan Sabha;  Yash Paul Gupta, former president JCMS;  Justice K K Gupta, Amar Nath Gupta, Yaugal Mahajan, Ram Sarup Gupta, Sr  vice president JCMS and Om  Prakash Gupta, general secretary JCMS.
Romesh Chander Gupta, in his welcome address, briefly mentioned the social activities of the Sabha performed to uplift the Mahajan community through “Justice Mehar Chand Charitable Hospital Gandhi Nagar, Jammu”, “Marriage Bureaus of Jammu Central Mahajan Sabha”, the Head Office which disbursed monthly pension to widows, aged persons and  needy students, Lala Hans Raj Mahajan Child and Women Welfare Society and the last but not the least the needed renovation of Mahajan Bhawan building at Shalamar Road Jammu.
On the occasion, Mahajan Ratan T R Gupta donated a new Ambulance, which will be kept at the disposal of Jammu Central Mahajan Sabha to meet the urgent requirement of the people for medical treatment, natural calamity etc.
Main attraction of the event was prize distribution function, in which the Sabha honoured many eminent personalities of the Mahajan community who on account of their own personal qualities and hard work achieved high status and dignified positions in various field activities and earned a good name by virtue of which they brought laurels to Mahajan community.
These eminent personalities included Prof Chaman Lal Gupta, Late S D Rohmetra, Journalist and founder Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper “Daily Excelsior”; T R Gupta and Judge K K Gupta. They all got `Life Time Achievement Awards’. Other dignitaries, who got awards under this category, included more than 40 dignified members of the Mahajan community.
Besides,   more than 50 students of the Mahajan community, who secured high marks/ positions in their respective academic examinations and sports during 2016-17, were also given mementos.
Two young persons of the Mahajan community, who solemnized marriage in simple manner without getting dowry, were also honoured with mementos in the said Parivar Millan.
Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta,  in  his  presidential address,   said that  it would be  our  real and rich tribute if we follow the  foot prints of Lala Hans Raj Mahajan  and Justice Mehar Chand  Mahajan and discard  the social evils which have crept in our modern society. He also stressed that we should perform our social functions like marriages in simple manner without undergoing extravagant expenditure.
Other speakers, including T.R Gupta, Kavinder Gupta, Jangi Lal Mahajan, Pawan Gupta and Rajesh Gupta, stressed that we should give moral education to our youngsters to become good citizens of the country and work harmoniously with their colleagues.
The members of the Mahajan community,  who were honoured,  included  Akhil Mahajan and  Gokul Mahajan ( for IAS-2017), Ishan Gupta, Drub Gupta and  Sunny Gupta (for KAS-2017), Prof  Neelu Rohmetra (Director IIM Sirmaur), Ajay Gupta (Commissioner Electrical Department-J&K), Ashwani Gupta (Chief Engineer PDD Jammu), Ravinder Gupta (Chief Engineer ERA Jammu), Ravi Rohmetra (social worker and Writer), Dr  Shakti Gupta (Medical Superintendent & HoD, Hospital Administration AIIMS New Delhi), Dr  R K Goel (Child Specialist), Dr  Anil Mahajan (HoD Medicine, GMC Jammu), Dr  Rajesh Gupta (HoD Ortho, Batra Medical College, Jammu), Dr  Anil Gupta (HoD Medicine, Batra Medical College, Jammu), Dr  Dinesh Gupta (HoD Eyes, GMC  Jammu), Dr  Anil Gupta (HoD Ortho, GMC Jammu), Dr  Romesh Gupta (Retd- Superintendent, GMC and  at present Administrator Swami Vivekanand Medical Mission Hospital Jammu), Dr Vivek Gupta (SSP Jammu), Gourav Mahajan, Dr Vinod Gupta (DySP Dar Jammu – KAS)  V R Gupta (Architect), Dr Vikrant Gupta,  Sikshit Gupta and  Shiv Neel Gupta.
The function concluded with a Dogri song, presented by a group of students, vote of thanks by Chander Mohan Gupta and Shanti Path.
Ram Sarup Gupta, Kaku Shah, Shiv Pratap Gupta, Rajesh Choudhary, Dr Mohan Lal Gupta and C P Gupta were among those present on the occasion.
