JAMMU, Mar 29: Minister for Housing, Culture and Sports Raman Bhalla today said that it was because of United Progressive Alliance (UPA) policies that rural India witnessed massive development during past one decade.
The UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had laid major thrust on ensuring electrification, building road infrastructure, providing potable water and better education system in rural areas of the country.
Seeking votes for party candidate for Jammu-Poonch Parliamentary constituency Madan Lal Sharma, Raman Bhalla said that coalition Government in the State had ably implemented programmes and policies of central Government to develop rural India.
He said liberal funding from Centre also enabled coalition to carry forward development due to which far flung areas of State stand connected with major towns and cities.
Bhalla assured that there will be no let up in the pace of development and added that both State and Central Governments had paid special attention towards peace and prosperity of J&K because of which Panchayati Raj was also strengthened.
Coalition Government was committed towards equitable development of all three regions of the state, he added.
Bhalla urged people to vote for Congress and send a credible candidate to Parliament who could become their voice.
Condemning BJP for its communal policies, Bhalla alleged that the party believes in dividing people on the basis of cast, region and religion.
Empowerment of Panchayats, setting up of new administrative units for giving people easy access to Government and Central schemes aimed at giving countrymen Right to Food, Right to Education and Right to Information were some of the biggest achievements of UPA Government which are aimed at taking India to new horizons, Bhalla asserted.
