UDHAMPUR, Oct 10: As rumours of an alleged sacrilegious act in vicinity of the town triggered tension in Udhampur, the District Administration has instructed the police for formulating dossiers of rumour mongers to be booked under Public Safety Act, if necessary.
Atleast 12 rumour mongers have been shortlisted for legal action and Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary has reiterated the seriousness of law enforcement authorities for strict action against persons taking law into their hand.
The district administration has appealed the people to maintain calm and restraint and not to get driven by rumours spread on social media or otherwise.

However, the situation was controlled soon as DC Udhampur rushed the Executive Magistrate, CEO Municipal Committee and a team of veterinary doctors accompanied by police team under DySP Gaurav Mahajan to the spot to enquire about the case, which was found to be natural death.
Later, Addl Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur Angrez Singh Rana along with Addl SP Mohan Lal Kaith, on behalf of district administration, held a press conference along with the owner of the dead bovine to clarify the case thus ruling out any foul play.
DC Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary along with DIG Surinder Gupta, SSP Suleiman Choudhary, Addl DC Angrez Singh Rana, Addl SP M L Kaith and ACR Rajiv Magotra reviewed the prevailing situation and the security review was followed by visit to various areas in the town.
