NEW DELHI, Aug 5: In response to a question in the Lok Sabha today, Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh disclosed that Government has started an RTI Online Web Portal whereby now RTI applications can be filed online also by any Indian citizen including those who are living abroad.
Elaborating further, Dr Jitendra Singh informed that the new RTI Online Web Portal has a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) www.rtionline.gov.in. Any citizen of India, living within the country or abroad, can easily file the RTI application online without having to undergo the botheration of physically approaching any office, he added.
As far as the prescribed fee for filing the RTI application is concerned, Dr Jitendra Singh explained that this can also be paid online through a payment gateway of State Bank of India (SBI) by way of internet banking of SBI and its associated banks and by using RuPay Card, Debit/Credit Cards of Master/Visa. This facility is at present available for 431 Public Authorities of Government of India, he added.
Dr Jitendra Singh stated that all the State Governments have been sent a written communication from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) to explore the feasibility of implementing the online RTI in their respective States. National Informatics Centre (NIC) has been requested to provide technical support, such as software and source code to the State Government, who desire to replicate web portal for online filing of RTI applications.
Dr Jitendra Singh said, all these progressive steps are in keeping with the Narendra Modi Government’s commitment to give “Maximum Governance, Minimum Government” and at the same time to bring in more accountability and transparency in administration. The government is committed to bring the benefits of the Modi Government’s pro-poor schemes and development plans to the doorstep of each and every citizen of this country and to offer each and every citizen the right of demanding accountability.
