RSS survey finds Modi as top choice, voters want development

NEW DELHI, March 30:
A survey by RSS mouthpiece Organiser  has revealed that this time it was not Ram Temple or Hindutva  that was in voters’ consideration but developmental issues  like infrastructure, education, healthcare, employment opportunities were among their top priorities.
According to the feedback the RSS got from voters, BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi was their top choice for the post with 43.72 per cent of respondents backing him. Mr Modi is coincidentally contesting for the top job on the development plank.
Supporters for Mr Modi’s prime ministership included all — women, youth, elderly and both rural and urban voters. The survey, conducted in 380 parliamentary constituencies across the country over two months, showed that the youth expected the new government to deliver on job creation, high economic growth and infrastructure development.
As many as 300 samples were collected from each constituency for a total of 1.14 lakh samples during the survey which was carried out by the NGO Lok Sarthi Foundation. The respondents said they wanted to see better roads, more power supply and better health facilities. The survey found Mr Modi having a definite edge over Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi in the north which has 162 constituencies, but the latter was leading over Mr Modi in the South which has 132 Lok Sabha seats.    A total of 48.6 per cent respondents in the North backed Modi as Prime Minister, while only 27 per cent were for Rahul.
However, Mr Gandhi has 35.8 per cent of respondents backing  him for the top job in the South, while Modi fished close to him with 33.3 repsondents in his favour for the post. In the central Indian states like Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, 45.4 per cent of the respondents backed Mr Modi for the prime minister’s post, and only 29 per cent wanted Mr Gandhi.
In West Indian states of Maharashtra and Gujarat, 57 per cent of the overall respondents want Mr Modi as PM, and only 24.4 per cent are for Mr Gandhi. (UNI)
