JAMMU, May 7: Police today recovered Rs 6 lakh cash drawn from an ATM of Punjab National Bank (PNB) at Janipura by a fraudster of Hansi, Haryana. A Janipura police station team raided residence of the accused and recovered 20 ATM cards of different banks, which he had reportedly swapped with the innocent people.
Accused has been identified as Ramesh Kumar alias Pappu, a resident of Jagdish Colony in Hansi area of Haryana.
Police said a retired MES official Satish Kumar Sharma had gone to PNB ATM at Janipura to withdraw Rs 20,000. As he was unable to operate the ATM, the accused standing behind him offered to help the officials and, in the process, swapped his ATM with him.
Later, the accused withdrew entire amount of Rs 6.12 lakh from the account of the MEW official using his ATM. The official had deposited his pension and other retirement benefits in the bank. He lodged a report with Janipura police station.
Police parties headed by SHO Janipura Inspector Narinder Singh swung into action and detected that amount from the retired official’s account had been withdrawn at Hansi, Haryana.
Police reached out to the accused after hectic efforts and raided his house. Police parties during the raid recovered Rs 6 lakh cash but the accused was not present in the house at that time.
Police said 20 ATM cards of ICICI, HDFC, PNB, Canara and Andhra banks were recovered from his house.
A case against the accused has been registered at Janipura police station for further investigations.
