Rs 57 cr released to Panchayats for creation of assets: Sagar

SRINAGAR, Sept 30: An amount of Rs 57 crore has been released for the creation of assets for the Panchayati Raj Institutions in the State.
The information was given in a high level meeting convened under the chairmanship of the Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Law Justice and Parliamentary Affaris Ali Mohammad Sagar held here today.
It was given out in the meeting that the amount will be released directly to the Panchayats, so that they can themselves ensure the creation of assets in coordination with the executing agencies of the Government. It is pertinent to mention that an amount of Rs 1 lakh per Panchayat has already been placed at their disposal for taking up works in their respective areas.
While addressing the officers, the Minister said that the Government is committed to ensure a vibrant Panchayati Raj system in the State and this measure would also augment the same. He said that we have already empowered the panchs and sarpanchs with the powers of 14 vital departments so that they can ensure sustained development of their respective areas.”
