Rs 30 lakh cash seized in Samba

SAMBA, Oct 28: Police today seized Rs 30 lakh cash from a businessman at a Naka in Nud near here today. The cash was seized by a police party of Police Station Samba led by SHO Inspector Rajesh Jasrotia during routine checking at naka after it intercepted a Swift car bearing Registration Number JK08D 6376 which was driven by one Narinder Kumar, S/o Om Parkash Gupta of Kathua and moving from Srinagar towards Kathua side via Udhampur- Mansar-Samba road.
Police said that while checking of the car, cash amounting to Rs. 30 lakh was recovered to which the car driver couldn’t provide any justification and satisfactory reply on questioning upon him by the police party. The car driver said that he is a wholesale businessman and it was the cash collected by him from traders, police added.
Police said, however, he failed to produce any day book or other record to prove and substantiate his point. Moreover, no person can carry such a huge amount which created suspicion to police as the car driver could not provide any justification and satisfactory reply on questioning by the police party.
Taking the cognizance of the matter, the police informed the Income Tax Department and the case has been handover over to them for further investigation.
Police said the IT sleuths also questioned him in front of police but he failed to satisfy them also. Now they will summon him again and in case he can’t verify the source of amount a case will be registered against him under relevant sections of the law and penalty imposed.
