
Fazal’s body buried at Hill Kaka

RAJOURI, Apr 24: In a deeply moving gesture reflecting the finest traditions of the Indian Army, the Romeo Force, paid a befitting tribute to Fazal Tahir Chaudhary, a courageous ‘son of the soil’ and a key figure in the historic Operation Sarp Vinash.

Fazal Tahir Chaudhary (62), son of Fazal Din and a resident of Marrah village in Surankote, district Poonch, passed away on the evening of April 22, in Uttarakhand. His mortal remains were transported with dignity and care to his native village, last night around 10.30 pm. Despite the late hour, a large number of people gathered, reflecting the immense respect and admiration, he commanded among the local populace.
The Romeo Force of the Indian Army played a pivotal role in ensuring that the last rites of the departed hero were conducted with full military honour. Demonstrating exceptional coordination and compassion, the Army facilitated the presence of a large gathering, ensuring that the final farewell turned into a collective expression of gratitude and remembrance. The ceremony, conducted post-midnight, was marked by discipline, reverence, and meticulous organization.
Fazal Tahir Chaudhary’s legacy is inseparably linked with ‘Operation Sarp Vinash’, a landmark counter-terrorism mission in 2003 that significantly weakened terrorist networks in the rugged terrains of Hill Kaka and adjoining areas of Surankote. His courage and unwavering resolve during this critical operation made him a symbol of resistance against terrorism and a beacon of hope for peace in the Pir Panjal region.
The Indian Army, while honouring his life, highlighted his extraordinary bravery and steadfast commitment to the national cause. He stood shoulder to shoulder with security forces at a time when the region was grappling with intense militancy. His contributions not only aided operational success but also inspired trust and cooperation between the armed forces and local communities.
The ceremony witnessed troops respectfully, shouldering the mortal remains, symbolizing solidarity and deep respect for a man who had dedicated himself to the cause of peace and stability. A two-minute silence was observed in accordance with military customs, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony on behalf of the Indian Army. Senior officers conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, acknowledging the irreplaceable loss.
In the aftermath of his demise, Romeo Force extended comprehensive logistical and humanitarian support, ensuring the safe and timely transportation of the mortal remains from Uttarakhand to his home village Marrah. This gesture not only eased the burden on the grieving family but also underscored the Army’s unwavering commitment to those who stand by the nation in times of need.
The people of Marrah and nearby Kulali villages expressed profound gratitude towards the Indian Army for its compassionate support and honourable conduct during the last rites.
