BUDGAM, Jan 23: Secretary, Higher Education, Talat Parvez Rohella today laid foundation stone of the Academic Block at Government Degree College (GDC), Magam.
District Development Commissioner, Budgam, Tariq Hussain Ganaie, SDM Beerwah Aijaz Ahmad Wadoo, Principal GDC Magam Dr Ruhi Jan were also present on the occasion.
The Secretary impressed upon the concerned to ensure timely completion of the academic block being executed by R&B at a cost of Rs. 5.87 crore under languishing projects.
Earlier, Principal of the College apprised the Secretary about the functioning of the College and gave a detailed presentation about the courses, activities and programmes being conducted at the institute.
Rohella also visited various blocks of the college and interacted with the staff and students at Kani Shawl and Pashmina Shawl block where workshop is being held for the enrolled students.
He lauded the role of the college administration for facilitating art courses in the college which he said shall not only promote Kashmir’s artwork but also enable students to become self-reliant.
He also directed the concerned to resolve land dispute with the owners hampering construction of required infrastructure for starting courses including Science, Hotel Management, Media Script and Music streams.
Later, DDC Budgam held a meeting with landowners at SDM office Beerwah and assured them that he shall look into their demands and the dispute shall be resolved promptly.
