KISHTWAR, Jan 21: Robbers made an unsuccessful attempt to steal money from an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) at Chinar Gali, here.
As per police sources, some unidentified robbers started breaking the ATM of State Bank of India (SBI) at Chinar Gali during the intervening night of January 20 and 21. But they failed to break the internal lock system of the machine.
When the thieves failed to break-open the ATM, they escaped from the spot and also set Close Circuit Television (CCTV) camera on fire.
The incident took place apparently because no private guard was present at ATM kiosk during the night hours.
The damage was discovered in morning after business started as usual in the densely populated marketplace of Chinar Gali, where the ATM kiosk is located. Later, Rs 24,40,700 cash of this ATM was deposited in SBI Kishtwar.
A case under relevant Sections has been registered at police station Kishtwar and manhunt has been launched to nab the robbers.
