Sir,
This has reference to news item ‘Make road safety awareness a full year campaign’ DE Feb 10.
The suggestion that chapters on Road safety be made a compulsory part of the school curriculum made by Chief Secretary of the State is an excellent one. Road safety has assumed greater significance in view of the increasing number of accidents taking place in the State. Hardly a day passes, when there is no road accident. The National Highways have become killer roads. Most of these accidents occur due to rash driving and violation of traffic rules.
The Road Transport Department organises Road Safety Week every year to create awareness among motorists. But this exercise does not create a lasting effect on the people. It has been found that people hardly take notice of it and are never interested in it, considering it be of no use. The Traffic Department should find innovate ways to create awareness among people. Unless that happens roads would never become safe for people.
Yours etc…
