JAMMU, May 18: Ring Road Kissan Sangharsh Samiti (RRKSS) today stressed upon the Government to pay adequate compensation as per LAAR Act to the farmers affected due to Ring/Semi Ring Raod projects at Jammu and Srinagar cities.
Addressing a press conference here at Press Club, the leaders of RRKSS said that land of the farmer community is being acquired for the Ring/Semi Ring Road projects forcibly without any reasonable compensation by the Government despite repeated requests for compensating the farmers as per the Central Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013 commonly known as LAAR Act.
They said that repeated requests of farmers have fallen into deaf ears of the Government and they have been compelled to take out a peaceful march tomorrow to the Jammu University auditorium, where PM Narendra Modi is visiting. “If we were prevented by the security agencies from reaching University auditorium only Government will be responsible as farmers can take any unforeseen action alike self immolation”, they warned.
The Samiti leaders said the land under acquisition is highly valuable agriculture land and is being acquired at less than 1/30th (and even less) of the market value. “This acquisition is bound to push the farming community to the brink of starvation”, they said and appealed Union Minister for Transport, Highways and Shipping as well as Prime Minister Modi to sympathetically resolving the demands of land loosing small and marginal farmer community.
