JAMMU, Feb 28: In a programme here today, Ware House Nehru Market Traders paid rich and floral tribute to Sher-I-Duggar, Lala Hansraj Mahajan.
JMC Mayor, Chander Mohan Gupta was the chief guest on this occasion and the tribute paying programme started with chanting of Gayatri Mantra after which garlanding of the portrait of Lala Hansraj was done.
It is pertinent to mention here that Lala Ji was the founder of Mahajan Sabha Jammu, Dogra Sadar Sabha and Akhil Bharatiya Mahajan Shiromani Sabha.
Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor gave a brief account of the outstanding achievements and historical deeds of Lala Hansraj who was committed to the cause of Duggar community and the nation.
Paying tribute to Lala Ji, Deepak Gupta, president Traders Federation Ware House Nehru Market urged JMC to dedicate a road or a bridge or any other landmark on his name as that would be real tribute to Lala Hansraj.
He termed Lala Ji as a great social reformer of his time who launched a crusade against social evils like child marriage and Sati.
“He also launched a movement for wearing Khadi, promoting brotherhood among various communities and for widow remarriage,” Deepak Gupta said adding that throughout his life Lala Ji worked for the welfare of all communities irrespective of their caste, creed, religion or region.
Other office bearers of the Federation present on the occasion were Munish Mahajan, senior vice president; Abhimanyu Gupta, vice president; Sham Lal Langer, general secretary; Vishal Gupta, secretary and Amit Gupta, cashier.
Among others present on the occasion were Arun Gupta, president Chamber of Commerce and Industry Jammu; Anil Gupta, senior vice president; Rajesh Gupta, secretary CCI Jammu; Yashpal Gupta, president Retailers Association; Rattan Lal Gupta, former president Traders Federation Ware House Nehru Market; Kirti Gupta, president Dal Merchant Association; Rajesh Bagotra, president Sugar Association; Romesh Mahajan, president Jammu Central Mahajan Sabha; Anil Kohli, president Apsara Road Traders Association; Rajesh Gupta, president Link Road Traders Association; Sanjay Gupta, president Raghunath Bazaar Association; Neeraj Gupta, president Satwari Traders Association and Vipan Gupta, president Mahajan Sabha Channi Himmat.
The programme ended with vote of thanks by Sham Langar.
