RGPRS expresses concern over delay in development projects

KATHUA, July 3:  The Rajiv Gandhi Panchayati Raj Sanghtan (RGPRS) has expressed concern over delay in development projects for farmers in Kathua district and demanded that the construction of the same be speeded up on war footing basis so that the farmers do not suffer any more.
While addressing press conference here, today Karan Singh, president of the Sanghthan said that Government is making tall claims about the farmers’ welfare and is giving thrust upon irrigation projects. But the big irrigation projects in the district like Check Dams at Khokhyal and Parngoli have not so far been completed though started many years back.

He said the Check Dam Khokhyal was started ten years earlier with an estimated cost of Rs 12 crore and Government has spend so far Rs 24 crore on it but it has not been completed as work has been abandoned on it for unknown reasons.  He said that some of work on the project which was undertaken has also been damaged due to poor and sub standard material used by contractors and concerning department.
He has appealed the Governor to take a review of all irrigation projects for the benefits of people and also order an inquiry to probe the works which were executed but got damaged before the project was put to function. He said the Prime Minister thrusts upon development of irrigation but the J&K Government turns a deaf ear towards completion of incomplete irrigation projects in the State.
Congress block president, Ravinder Singh also asked the administration to clear the blockage of sewerage system lying choked in rainy season in the town. He alleged that sewerage system set up 25 years earlier has not been maintained or repaired anyway. The choking of sewerage system is routine problem at DC office, Nagari road , Jail road , Hatli Morh , Kalibari etc.
