HC seeks ATR on Dal lake

SRINAGAR, July 3:  The High Court today sought report from Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) with regard to steps taken in light of compliance report filed by the State Pollution Control Board about Dal lake.
The Division Bench of Acting Chief Justice Aloke Aradhe and Justice D S Thakur while hearing a Public Interest Litigation on protection and conservation of famous Dal lake, sought report from LAWDA in light of report filed by PCB to indicate as to what steps for controlling the pollution have been taken so far.
Court on the submissions of amicus and Senior Advocate Z A Shah, directed the authorities to address the concern recorded by Court Commissioners in shape of status report by next date.
Meanwhile, court enquired from the VC LAWDA about the functioning of STPs in the lake to which VC submitted that the up-gradation of existing STPs is under process and court will be apprised on next date in this connection.
Court Commissioners have been appointed by the Court to oversee and supervise if any construction or encroachments is taking place in and around the peripheries of the lake so that action on time be taken.
Court has already fixed the responsibility on the concerned authorities about the implementation of court directions passed from time to time about the safeguarding of the lake.
