It becomes a mockery when a pensioner, a senior citizen is asked to produce his life certificate inspite of his, her personal, physical presence for getting his pension.
I get my pension from the J&K bank branch office Nagrota Gujroo and the bank manager often told me that the life certificate is required to be recorded every month under my signature. Sometimes he also got my signature on the prescribed form.
This time I was astonished when I was directed to get my life certificate from a gazzatted officer, otherwise my pension would be stopped. Besides a re-marriage certificate was to be obtained from the same authority. At the age of 80 an old man who gets the bank facility for pension, he is harassed and compelled to obtain a life or re-marriage certificate from the competent authority even if he is regularly attending the bank personally to get his/her pension. His credibility is at stake and a third person with some extra qualities will give the certificate that man is present and he is alive. He has to produce an evidence to get his pension .
However this type of certificate is preferred in case of disabled, bedridden diseased people who get their pension through messengers. The impersonating accused should be put behind the bars. But it is most unfortunate that all other pensioners should produce such certificate every time without any relaxation. It gives mental harassment, physical problems, and monetary loss.
