Revived Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission starts disposing of cases

JAMMU, June 10: Newly revived State Consumer Commission disposed of 274 cases in Srinagar in a single day on June 9 and awarded compensation of Rs 7,60,176 in two consumer complaint cases.
The cases were disposed of through 10 different orders of the J&K State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission at its Srinagar Office at Shaheed Ganj.
Sharing the breakup of these cases, Member of the Commission, Maheep Gupta informed that the total 274 cases disposed comprised of three Consumer complaints, 266 Revision Petitions, one Execution Petition, one Appeal, one Misc Application & two Restoration Applications.
Mr Gupta also informed that a total compensation for Rs 7,60,176/- was awarded in the favour of the complainants in the three consumer complaint cases. He further informed that more than 2000 cases were pending with this Commission when it was wound up in October’ 2019.
“We are very much seized of the inconvenience that the general public might be facing due to the long pending consumer disputes and every effort is being made for mitigating the same,” he said and assured that the Commission has now been revived and the initial teething problems have also been surmounted. No stone shall be left unturned to dispose of all the cases in a speedy and efficient manner, he added.
Mr Gupta also stated that the biggest problem being faced at this stage is to reach the consumers, whose cases are pending with the Commission, to resume the proceedings. He requested media for creating awareness amongst general public that the State Commission’s offices, both at Jammu and Srinagar are fully functional now and people can approach them on any working day between Monday to Friday during the working hours for resumption of proceedings in their cases.
