SRINAGAR, Aug 29: A Revenue official, accused of accepting a bribe of Rs 5000, was today sentenced to three years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000.
The Court of Additional Special Judge Anti-corruption, Kashmir, presided by Jeema Bashir, convicted Mohammad Abdullah Geelani of Laribal Handwara, the then Naazir in Tehsil Office Handwara and ordered his imprisonment for 3 years and fine of Rs 10,000 for the offence.
In default of payment of fine, the accused shall undergo further imprisonment of 6 months.
The accused was arrested by Vigilance Organization in 2006 while accepting bribe of Rs 5,000 from one Mansoor Ahmad Hajam of Zachildara Handwara and a Case under FIR 24/2006 under Section 5(2) PC Act read with Section 161 RPC was registered in Police Station Vigilance Organization Kashmir.
During the investigation, it was established that the accused had demanded and accepted bribe of Rs 5000 from the complainant for mutation of his ancestral land. The investigation officer proved the case of criminal misconduct against the accused Mohammad Abdullah Geelani on the basis of evidence, both documentary and oral.
