Education has all along played a pivotal role in the transformation of a society. It is by dint of education our character is formed, strength of mind is increased, the intellect is expanded and by which one can stand on one’s own feet. No one can deny the fact that education has remained focussed since past where in a number of reformative steps were taken by the Govt. Education has reached at the door step of the remotest corner of the State. Literacy rate has gone up and is 68.74 per cent as per 2011 population census. Of that, male literacy stands as 78.26 per cent while female literacy is at 58.01 percent. Overall literacy rate has grown from 55.5 percent in 2012 to 68.74 percent in 2011. Right to education, adequate infrastructure in schools, free mid day meal scheme have been the priorities of the Govt. where the emphasis is placed on. Inspite of these healthy measures taken by the Govt. revamping of education is needed. We have inadequate staff in schools, various categories of adhoc and temporary appointments having glaring disparities in pay scales that demotivate teachers with a cascading effect on the students.
To arrest the deteriorating standard of school education, the Govt must take firm decisions with regard to quality education. Govt should keep a tab on the functioning of private schools. It should check wasteful and populist expenditure and spend more on education. The Govt must not compromise on the qualification of teachers and recruitment of teachers should be made on the basis of merit. Genuine grievances of teachers need to be redressed and Govt should fill all posts without any delay.
