Return of scientists

Sir,
As per news item D.E dated September 3, 2014 Dr Jitendra Singh minister in charge of Science & Technology and Atomic Energy has stated that 12 scientists want to come back and work in their own country India. This is a welcome development and happy news for the countrymen. These scientists have migrated to other countries mostly to Europe and America where they get proper environment and facilities for their research work. Our country although having a large population is not having sufficient research institutes with modern facilities. No doubt the number of science colleges and universities has increased many folds since the independence but the number of scientists produced is very less in comparison. The President of India in the recently held convocation in the University of Jammu has rightly said that no Indian university has produced a Noble Laureate after C.V.Raman in 1930. Although the Indian born scientists like Dr Hargovind Khorana and Chanderashekher were able to won this coveted prize after they migrated and did their research work in America. This is a clear indication that there is no dearth of scientific minds in India. The universities in our country give impetus on imparting education which can secure more marks for the students and provide them a job with good earnings. Despite all these shortcomings there is remarkable achievement in space science and atomic energy. The need of the hour is that our country should establish the research institutes with international standards so that our scientific minds do not get any need to go to other countries for higher research and the real scientific wealth of the country is saved. We hope our honourable minister who is also a person of science background along with the dynamic prime minister will take steps in this direction so that share of our country in noble prize winners in science is suitably increased.
Yours etc….
