Sir,
The decision of the State Government to enhance the retirement age of the State employees is an unexpected move. The coalition Government has had to take the decision as a run up for its preparation for the ensuing Assembly polls. That this measure shall result in turning the popular mood especially of the benefitting employees and their relatives in favour of the National Conference is doubtful. The decision may benefit a few employees now at their fag end of the term but it is bereft of a sound employment policy.
It is a decision against the interests of thousands of unemployed youth. Unemployment is one of the biggest problems of the State. There is no proper planning and policy on employment being pursued by the State. If the youth continues to be neglected , it is not good for the society and the country as a whole. Economic dependency cy on the centre and soaring cost of administration, extensions, re-employment and creating of superfluous posts for the retired aged people create a sense of policies bankruptcies.
Identifying and removing the “dead wood” from the employment is required as a pragmatic economic and social step.
Yours etc…
