Retired TA man succumbs, 5 OGWs held

Srinagar, Apr 13: Police today arrested five Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) from Sopore area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Police said that a joint team of Army’s 22 RR and SOG arrested the five militant associates in Tujar and Harwan areas of Sopore in separate raids.
”One UBGL gun, one UBGL grenade and 5 hand grenades and other incriminating material were recovered from their possession,” police said.
It added that the arrested persons are also involved in a case (FIR Number 3/2020 under Section 427, 307 IPC and Explosive Substance Act) registered in Police Station Bomai.
Police have registered a fresh case against them for unlawful activities act.
They have been identified as Arif Billa son of Abdul Ahad Sheikh of Nandpura Tujjar Sopore, Sartaj Ahmad Sheikh son of Mohammad Ismail Sheikh of Sheikhpura Tujjar Sopore, Nissar Ahmad Lone son of Ghulam Ahmad Lone of Khan Mohalla Tujjar Sopore,  Mohammad Murtaza Bhat son of Atiqulla Bhat of Sheikhpura Mohalla Tujjar Sopore and Fayaz Ahmad of Tujjar in Sopore.
Police said that they were involved in grenade throwing incident on a civilian in January. And were also working for LeT.
Militants today fired upon a joint party of police, CRPF at Naka in Malangpora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district this evening.
Police said that militants attacked joint party at Malangpora area of Awantipora. The security forces also retaliated. A cordon and search operation was launched by the security forces in the area.
And a retired Indian Army soldier, who was shot at by militants last evening in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, succumbed to injuries at the Army’s 92 base hospital in Srinagar this morning. The deceased Abdul Hameed Matoo, a resident of Buchroo village in Yaripora area of Kulgam district, who went by the alias of ‘Cobra’ and had served in the 162 battalion of the Territorial Army (TA).
