JAMMU, July 21: A retired Deputy Superintendent of J&K police was killed today in a road mishap that occurred in Channi Himmat area of city outskirts.
According to SHO Channi Himmat, Inspector Sujad Haider, the retired police officer who has been identified as Vijay Kumar Gupta (64) son of Ram Nath Gupta, a resident of Old Gurha, Bakshi Nagar (Jammu), was going towards his home on its scooty bearing registration No JK02AX-1427 when it collided head on with a 407 truck bearing registration number JK02W-6649 near Marble Market, Channi Himmat, at about 1 pm this afternoon.
The retired officer received serious injuries in the mishap and was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu by the accused truck driver himself. However, the doctors at hospital declared him as brought dead.
After conducting post mortem, the dead body of the deceased was later handed over to his family members for last rites.
A case under relevant sections has been registered at concerned police stations and both the vehicles involved in the mishap seized.
