Restrictions in Srinagar, major towns

Srinagar, July 7:  Security across Kashmir has been tightened on the occasion of the death anniversary of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani to prevent any trouble in the Valley.
The home town of Wani, Tral in South Kashmir was sealed today to prevent any congregation of the people and protests.  Security forces last night sealed the township by blocking all the entry and exit points and security forces were seen patrolling the streets.

Authorities today imposed restrictions in Srinagar areas falling under the jurisdiction of five Police Stations here as precautionary measures.
The restrictions under Section 144 CrPc were imposed in Srinagar areas falling under the jurisdiction of five Police Stations including Nowhatta, M R Gunj, Rainawari, Khanyar and Safakadal.
The District Magistrate Srinagar had said that the restrictions are being imposed as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident.
The traffic on the streets was thin and markets were partially closed ahead of Wani’s anniversary due to high security and fear of trouble.
The District Magistrate Srinagar, today said that there will be restrictions on movement of public and transport under Sec 144 CrPC in all Police Stations of District Srinagar on July 8.  “The Essential Services and Govt Employees are exempted from restriction”, he said.
“Restrictions shall also not be applicable to accredited and registered media persons exclusively performing their professional duties”, the order issued by the DC read.
The separatist leaders, meanwhile, issued a fresh protest calendar wherein they appealed people to observe complete shutdown on July 9 and 13.
The internet services today played hide and seek in Kashmir after the service providers were told to shut down the internet.
Kashmir University (KU) postponed all examinations which were scheduled to be held in the Kashmir valley tomorrow.
A spokesperson of the KU said that in view of concerns expressed by students vis-a-vis transportation, all KU examinations scheduled to be held tomorrow are postponed. The fresh dates for the deferred examinations shall be notified separately later, he said.
