JAMMU, Mar 6: In a significant development in the Upper House of the J&K Legislature today, senior National Conference legislator and former Minister Ajatshatru Singh, who happens to be the younger son of former Sadr-e-Riasat and senior Congress leader at the Centre Dr Karan Singh, said that if the present dispensation is unable to rule properly, it should restore the State of Jammu and Kashmir to its ‘original rulers’.
The surprising remarks from the senior NC member, belonging to the family of former Maharaja of the State, against his own party and its leader stunned all the ruling party members and they apparently remained speechless for some moments after Ajatshatru concluded his speech. Thereafter, the murmuring among the members started in the entire House.
It happened when the members were speaking on the adjournment motion moved by the PDP and NPP members on the issue of killing of a youth, Tahir Sofi in Baramulla area in security forces firing on Tuesday. Chairman Legislative Council, Amrit Malhotra was in the chair while leader of the House and Minister in Omar Abdullah- led dispensation Ajay Kumar Sadhotra (NC) was also present. Surprisingly, no immediate reaction from any member was witnessed in the entire House on these remarks, which questioned the efficiency and administrative leadership of Omar Abdullah and the National Conference president.
While participating in the discussion, Ajatshatru Singh condemned the killing of innocent youth in firing at Baramulla in Kashmir and said that such incident should not occur. He expressed his sympathy with the family members and said that those responsible for it deserve punishment.
Questioning the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the NC member said, “If they are unable to rule, they should handover the State to those whom it originally belonged.”
Obviously, remarks of Dr Karan’s Singh’s son, indicated in the House of Elders that State of Jammu and Kashmir be handed over to their family, as the present dispensation led Omar Abdullah, who happens to be the grandson of Late Sheikh Mohd Abdullah, was unable to rule properly.
Lone, NPP member in the House, Sayed Rafiq Shah endorsed the remarks of Ajatshatru Singh and said he was speaking right. After completing his speech, the NC member then left the House after a few minutes.
