Restore Pandits land from mafia in Valley: KPC

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, June 18: Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC) has urged the Government to restore the land encroached of Kashmiri Pandits and their religious places by the land mafia in Valley during last 30 years of turmoil.
In a statement issued here, today KPC chief, Kundan Kashmiri alleged that there exists a nexus of some Revenue officials and land mafia in the Valley and despite the repeated pleas of various KP organizations, the authorities are not taking any interest in restoring the land of displaced Pandits by the mafia.
Kashmiri said even some Government agencies without consultation of the owners of the land or the local Pandit bodies have encroached the land of Pandits and their religious places for construction of dispensaries, schools, PHE Pump Stations, Receiving stations, office complexes and Bus stands at different parts of Valley which has led to a lot of resentment among the community.
He said on the one hand the Government is claiming dignified return of Pandits while on the other hand the land mafia has been given a free hand to encroach the Pandits land.
He said Pandits land in Bidder Hayatpora has been encroached by mafia and despite the repeated pleas to DC Anantnag and SHO Kokernag they failed to take action against the mafia.
He said like wise the prime land of Pandits has been grabbed by the family of a surrendered militant in Pulwama town adjoin Shopain road but the authorities failed to restore the same. The displaced family is running from pillar to post but to no avail as the encroachers have mutilated the papers. Likewise the land of a religious place has been grabbed in Kurigam in Qazigund area of Kulgam district by the PDD without informing the temple committee. Kashmiri said this indicates the Government is itself closing the doors for Pandits return to Valley.
