Restore Bahu Fort to its original glory: Charak

JAMMU,  Aug 20: Dogra Heritage Development Society (DHDS) chairman and former Minister Gulchain Singh Charak has demanded that State Government should take immediate long and short-term measures  to restore damaged Bahu Fort to its original glory.
Addressing a press conference here today, Mr Charak, a senior Congress leader expressed serious concern over the damage caused to the main wall of historical Bahu Fort Jammu and developing of cracks at other places of the Fort during recent rains and also the damage caused to the other heritage properties of the region due to rains and earthquakes.
Mr Charak said that Dogra Heritage Development Society members besides others from the civil society in the meeting held at Dogra Saddar Sabha on Monday also discussed the issue in detail and expressed their serious concern over the damage suffered by the heritage sites. After the threadbare discussion, a resolution was also passed unanimously by all the members.
Mr Charak said that Society members besides others strongly demand that Government should constitute a committee of experts to enquire into the reasons of damages caused by rains to the Bahu Fort complex, despite spending crores of rupees during the recent past.
He further stressed that Government should organize a national level workshop by inviting experts of the conservation, geological, structural, environmental and civil engineering from conservation and restoration field, ASI, INTACH, State Archives Department, Dogra Heritage Development Society  of  Jammu and intellectuals from civil society having expertise.
He further maintained that the expert group after visiting these sites including Mubarak Mandi will give its view point  on the present status, immediate steps required to be taken for restoration, advise for preparation of  Master plan, investigations required to be carried out, need of preparation of DPRs for Heritage complexes in the region, besides reason behind the damages suffered.
