JAMMU, Mar 3: Dogra Labour Union (DLU) warned to come on roads for agitation if Government and the Forest Department failed to resolve the issues of saw mills owners.
This was stated by Kuldeep Raj Chalotra, president of the union during a press conference here today.
He added that the Forest Department is refusing renewal of the licenses of saw mills all over the Jammu province and even harassing the owners of saw mills.
“In case the Government intends to close the saw mills, alternative measures are required to taken to ensure survival of such affected families”, he added.
Since the prevision Government has totally failed to eradicate poverty and providing jobs to the unemployed educated youths, it is unfortunate that those who have managed their self employment by establishing their own business units as saw mills are being forced to wind up their business units, he said and appealed to make alternative arrangements ensuring livelihood to such business holders.
Chalotra further stated that saw mills play an importance role by meeting the demands of the masses in rural as well as urban areas, even farmers are dependent upon these saw mills as they get necessary tools manufactured from these saw mills for use in agriculture farming, adding that weaker section of the society also takes fire-woods from these saw mills to cook their daily meals.
He appealed to the Government and the Forest Department to ensure the renewal of the licenses of the saw mills enabling the proprietors of these saw mills to manage their livelihood, otherwise they will come on roads for agitation and the consequences thereof shall be the responsibility of the Government as well as Forest Department.
