JAMMU, Aug 6: The residents of Ward Numbers 1 and 2 of Jammu Municipal Corporation held protest against installation of iron gates on both sides of the Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex.
A large number of residents assembled at Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex and raised slogans against the administration.
The protestors vehemently objected to this act of installation of gates which obstructs the normal movement of passerby and create difficulty in movement for the people of the area.
They told that Director Heritage and concerned Advisor were approached for the purpose so as to take immediate action for removal of installed iron gates and to redress the public grievance.
The residents have been constantly demanding that the gates should be removed.
Ex-MLA Jammu East Yogesh Sawhney extended his support to the protesters and sought immediate assistance into the matter.
A delegation of the residents of Ward Numbers 1 and 2 led by Sawhney had already met Director Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex to discuss the matters prior to the installation which is being now protested.
Director had expressed concerns however, the iron gates were still installed, the protestors added.
Sawhney approached the concerned Advisor to discuss the grievances expressed by the protesters, who assured Sawhney that he would look into the matter.
Sawhney stated that the public has been reluctant of the installation of iron gates, despite which, they were installed.
The public is experiencing traffic congestion problems amongst other inconveniences, he said and adding that such steps would destroy the original character of the structure which is symbolic of rich history.
Among the protesters were prominent Congress leaders including Ram Sarup Baru, Raj Singh, Dhyan Singh, ML Malanger, Chander Shaker, Atul Sharma, Ram Magotra, Gurmeet Singh, Hardawinder Singh, Kuldeep Sharma, SS Salathia, Dawark Nath, Parnav Singh, Sanjeev Singh, Sanjay, etc.
