Residents demand repair of unsafe foot-bridge

DODA, Dec 8: Despite declared unsafe, the residents of various villages are being forced to move over a foot-bridge, which is almost to collapse at any moment.
The residents said that the dilapidated condition of iron foot-bridge over Kalgoni Nalla in Sub District Headquarter Gandoh is posing a serious risk to the lives of thousands of people.
A local resident Pritam Singh said the suspension iron foot-bridge over Kalgoni nallah was built several decades ago, but its iron sheets flooring were not changed since long.
“The bridge has been damaged as iron planks supporting the bridge are decaying and need immediate repair but the R&B Department has turned blind eye towards it”, he added.
“The only connectivity for the people residing in Gandoh, Bhargi, Kunan, Kota, Dhawery, Sinoo, Thirlu and many other villages is this bridge and if it collapsed, thousands of people including students, ailing and old age persons will suffer a lot”, another resident said.
The residents demanded immediate replacement of the iron bridge. They also requested the R&B Department to immediately repair the foot-bridge so as to avoid any untoward incident in future.
