Repeated attacks on Medical staff unacceptable: DAK

SRINAGAR, July 30: While condemning the repeated attacks on medical staff in Valley, Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) today said that such acts of savagery are unacceptable.
Expressing outrage over increasing attacks on hospital staff, the DAK present, Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan said the stopping medical personnel from attending sick and wounded is intolerable. “Doctors and paramedical staff who risk their lives to attend duties face the wrath of forces. We come out from our homes as our services are needed most, but we are not allowed to do so,” he said.
The DAK president said that ‘we are being harassed and thrashed for saving lives’. “The security forces vent their anger and frustration on us which is not done. Yesterday, a male nurse of SKIMS who was on his way to attend duty was beaten by paramilitary forces at 90 feet Soura,” he said.
“Despite displaying his identity card, he was abused and thrashed. A week before, SKIMS staff was attacked by forces at Beehama Ganderbal while they were returning from their duties. Even the female staff was not spared.
Many ambulances ferrying critically ill patients were damaged and the drivers were physically assaulted,” DAK president said.
Dr Nisar said the medical staff is being beaten without rhyme or reason which is heart-wrenching. “Such acts have created fear and anxiety among medical staff who find it extremely difficult to focus on patients. This mad pattern of atrocities against medical staff must end and it is the duty of State and obligation on society to ensure the safety and security of hospital staff,” added DAK president.
