Renowned educationist, JKSAC delegation call on Governor

JAMMU, Nov 16: Prof. Neerja Mattoo, well known educationist and writer, called on Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan.
Prof. Mattoo discussed with the Governor her concerns about the varied challenges facing the educational system in the State and the initiatives required to be taken to equip students with knowledge and skills to be able to compete in todays highly competitive and skill oriented job market.
The Governor appreciated Prof. Mattoo’s valuable contributions in the educational arena and for bringing out “Miraas” the bi-annual journal which represents the culture and heritage of Kashmir.
A delegation of Jammu Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKSAC), led by its President Gurdev Singh also called on Governor.
The delegation requested the Governor to impress upon the Central and the State Governments to consider one time settlement of issues of the 1947 Displaced Persons (DPs) which include: compensation for their properties in PoK; compensation for the deficiencies in the lands earlier allotted to them; reimbursement of cost of land, with interest; employment package/reservation for their wards in technical institutions and Government jobs.
The delegation also requested the Governor to impress upon the State Government to simplify the procedure and formalities for issuing Permanent Resident Certificates in favour of Displaced Persons and to urge the Chief Minister and the Union Home Minister to take the JKSAC representatives in confidence and prepare a comprehensive road map for assessing and paying compensation to the DPs.
The Governor observed that he had earlier also taken up JKSAC’s problems with the Chief Minister and the Union Home Minister and would do so again.
