JAMMU, Sept 10: Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Sham Lal Choudhary, today directed the officers to remove all unauthorized water connections on war footing so that supply of potable water can be streamlined in the state.
The Minister, while chairing a meeting to review the physical and financial status of various ongoing water supply schemes in Jammu province, ordered removal of illegal motors drawing water from canals for irrigation purposes and instructed the officers to regularly conduct field visits to keep a check on the violators.
It was informed in the meeting that various ongoing Water Supply Schemes (WSS) under NRDWP in Jammu province including 7 in City-I, 17 in City-II, 50 in Rural, 86 in Akhnoor, 49 in Samba, 106 in Kathua, 32 in Udhampur, 21 in Reasi, 43 in Dharmari, 52 in Doda, 18 in Gandoh, 65 in Ramban, 59 in Kishtwar, 76 in Rajouri, 57 in Nowshera and 62 in Poonch divisions. Out of these, 112 schemes are targeted to be completed by the end of this financial year, covering almost 162 habitations.
Under LIC Loan Assistance, 69 schemes are being executed in Jammu province including 12 in City-I, 13 in City-II, 7 in North, 2 in South, 3 in Rural, 3 in Akhnoor, 5 in Samba, 3 in Kathua, 3 in Udhampur, 1 in Reasi, 3 in Ramban, 3 in Nowshera and 1 in Rajouri and 10 in Poonch.
The Minister directed the concerned officers to increase the pace of works and complete the projects within stipulated time frame.
He further asked them to conduct social audits of the schemes after their commissioning to ascertain the actual position of water supply in the areas of the respective WSS. The rationalization of staff should be done at various PHE installations for smooth functioning of the department, he added.
The Minister was also informed about the status of implementation of 15 ongoing flood control projects and construction of Ravi-Tawi Irrigation Complex (RTIC).
Secretary PHE, I&FC Department, Sanjeev Verma, Chief Engineer RTIC, HC Jerath, Chief Engineer PHE, Susheel Aima, Chief Engineer I&FC, Rajeev Gandotra, Director Finance PHE/I&FC Department, Mahesh Das, Joint Director (Plg)PHE/I&FC Department, Syed Shabir Shafi and other senior officers of the department were present in the meeting.
