Remembering Martyrs

Sir,
This has reference to the writeup’Do we really care for our Martyrs?’ (DE, Jan 30, 2018).The writer has paid  rich and beautiful tribute to the martyrs who never betray their country and  never mind sacrificing their life for the sake of their motherland. Who can  forget the supreme sacrtifice of freedom fighters such as Bhagat Singh, Raj Guru,Sukhdev, Mahatama Gandhi and others, security men on 26/11, our brave officers and soldiers in wars and in anti militancy operations and other such acts of defending the integrity and sovereignty of their country? They die that their countrymen must live. They are the pride of our country and are the heroes of the whole country and not only of the region they hail from. The writer has rightly said that observing silence on the martyrs day for two minutes is not sufficient tribute to commemorate the monumental sacrifices of the martyrs.People must acknowledge their contributions, help their families, meet them quite often  to assure them that they are always with them and that the  grateful countrymen have not forgotten their sacrifice  and they will remain indebted to them.People ought to pay salute to their valour, bravery and sacrifice in a dignified way by rememebering them on their birth anniverseries and martyrdom day.It is worthwhile to take candle marches to the memorials built in their memory to express  solidarity with their familes and pay them their gratitude for their supreme sacrifice.A martyr makes the supreme sacrifice of his life for the cause of his motherland and the different social and political organisations too should come forward to pay our martyrs rich tribute. The Government should also recognise their supreme sacrifice for their nation and provide various facilities such as free/concessional travelling in trains/planes,reservation of seats for their wards, free medical treatment for their dependents etc.Functions at school and college levels should also be organised to commemorate their sacrifices.Their kiths and kins should should be invited to various functions and honoured and their tales of bravery and valour must be narrated and  included in the syllabus at school and college in order to inculcate nationalistic spirit in the children and the youth. The writer deserves appreciation for writing the article so beautifully.
Yours etc….
