JAMMU, Dec 10: Former Minister and Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ghulam Ahmed Mir today said that after remaining silent for over four years, the BJP is now again exploiting the innocent people of the country on the issue of Ram temple at Ayodhya.
Talking to media-persons at the sidelines of party function to felicitate newly elected Corporators and Councilors of Jammu division at Congress headquarters here today, Mir said before Parliamentary elections, the BJP had made promise with the people of the country to construct Ram Temple at Ayodhya if the party comes to power. During over last four years while enjoying power, the BJP placed this issue to back burner. Its top leaders remained tight lipped over the matter. But now again, they have started harping on the Ram temple issue and exploiting people by raising such emotional issues.
“We are not against temple at Ayodhya or any where else in the country but only ask BJP leadership where were they during last four and half years after coming to power. Why did they turn silent and failed to honour its promise? The people are wise enough and will teach a lesson to this party for exploiting people on emotional issues in coming elections,” Mir said.
When asked about the attempt of the BJP to rotate the reserved Assembly constituencies in the State, Mir said, ” It was already over due. Congress is not against rotation of reserved assemblies or delimitation but the timing is not appropriate. It would have been better if such action had been taken by an elected Government. It will not be fair to go for such move on behest of a particular party,” Mir maintained.
Later, while addressing elected Corpotators and Councilors in the function, PCC chief said Congress was the only secular and unifying force in the country and State. He said the party will continue to safeguard the secular fabric in the Country. Mir said the Party will defeat the designs of communal and divisive forces creating atmosphere of discord and will not allow them to play with the emotions of people for political gains.
Mir said Congress party has always stood for equitable development of all regions and strengthening of democratic institutions at all levels for devolution of powers to the people for their better participation in the governance.
PCC chief said that Congress party has emerged a vibrant force in all regions of the State and there is positive change in the mindset and the mood of the people because of the policies and programmes of the Congress party. He said that his perception and understanding of the situation is that Congress would emerge as the largest party in the next assembly elections.
The function was also addressed by former ministers Mula Ram, Raman Bhalla Manmohan Singh, Shabir Ahmed Khan, Krishan Chander Bagat, Vikram Malhotra, Hari Singh Chib and others.
