The protesters while highlighting the problems of migrant relief holders and over-aged youth said that they have suffered a lot over these years and due to the callousness of the Governments their future is total bleak.
The Government which was supposed to give a healing touch to the displaced people has totally ignored them over the years. They said that the cash relief has not been increased for last many years despite the fact that the prices have touched the sky due to which the migrants getting a meager cash assistance from Government are unable to make their both ends meet.
The protesters demanded immediate hike in cash assistance to the tune of Rs 25,000 per month. They urged the Government to take immediate steps in mitigating the sufferings of displaced people in general and relief holders and over aged youth in particular.
They said any step taken in this regard will act as a Confidence Building Measure (CBM) in the community which has lost its faith in the political system of the country now due to the apathy of successive State and Central Governments towards the displaced Pandits who despite being the indigenous people of the Valley were thrown out from their homes and hearths and the Government of that time instead of ensuing the safety and security to the community watched this whole helplessly.
Those who addressed included Sunil Fotedar, Sunil Pandita, Ravinder Koul, B L Koul, Pankaj Langoo, R N Raina Jagti and Rakesh Kaul.
