KATHUA, Feb 8: The displaced persons from Pak occupied Kashmir (PoK) have urged upon the Union Government to release pending Rs 9096 crore package in favour of refugees without any delay.
In a meeting held at Sports Stadium, Hiranagar today, the refugees from all the corners of the Tehsil participated and projected their issues strongly. The meeting was presided over by the district president KL Bakshi.
While addressing the gathering, Mr Bakshi said that State Government has recommended the case of the refugees to the Union Government for the package of Rs 9096 crore for one time settlement of refugees. The Govt in this recommendation suggested to pay Rs 25 lakh per family, reservation in Central Govt jobs for the wards of the refugees, reservation in professional colleges and technical colleges besides de-freezing of eight Assembly seats.
But till date the package has not been released by the Central Government. The Central Govt sent back the case to the State Govt for its resubmission of the case along with the case of West Pakistan refugees instead of releasing the package for the refugees of PoK (1947, 1965 & 1971). Mr Bakshi again appealed the Central Govt to release the package for the refugees of PoK (1947, 1965 & 1971) already submitted by the J&K Govt and not to compare the case of the West Pakistan refugees with the case of PoK refugees. He also appealed the Central Govt to reserve the 24 seats of Assembly segments for PoK refugees.
Prominent among others present in the meeting included Om Parkash, Balbir Singh, S Narinder Pal Singh, Sham Kumar Sabarwal, Balbir Singh, Lambardar Shankar Dass, Subhash Chander, Sham Lal, Bansi Lal and Vijay Bakshi.
