JAMMU, Feb 8: The 118th birthday of Sri Guru Gyagi Ji was today celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety.
Large number of Batwal community members participated in the function, organized at Bahu Fort here, today by the Jammu and Kashmir Batwal Welfare Association.
On the occasion, the Association honoured Capt Raja Ram Kaith, Capt Om Parkash Tugga, Naib Sub Rashpal Chand Bassa, Hav Des Raj Kaith, Dr Gurdas Chand Sargotra, Panch Narayan Dass Bassa, Madan Raj Kaith, Bharat Bushan Kaith and Waryam Chand Motan, for eminent services they have rendered for the good of others.
After the honour ceremony, the Association members explained the main demand of the Batwal Community. They said that since 67 years of independence, the Union as well as the State Government of Jammu and Kashmir, have done a lot for the upliftment of all socially and economically weaker sections but nothing for the Batwal Community which is lagging behind in all fields.
The Association urged the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to grant a ‘Special Package’ to Batwal community of Jammu and Kashmir on the basis of its survey report, prepared in 1994.
The Association also appealed the Governor N N Vohra to allot a suitable piece of land to Batwal community in the vicinity of Jammu for construction of Batwal Community Facility Hall.
While addressing the gathering, Association election commissioner Dr Ramesh Kumar Kaith, highlighted the secular aspect and universal character of Gugu Ji giving references of global brotherhood and oneness of the mankind.
Association general secretary R L Kaith said that the quality education to the children among the Batwal community is most important. He emphasized for eradication of social evils prevalent in the Batwal community.
