NOWSHERA, June 9: The parents and relatives of a young woman held protest demonstration keeping her dead body on the road and suspended movement of traffic for about two hours in Nowshera area today.
Reports said that young Jyoti Devi, wife of Rakesh Kumar, resident of Dabbar village, about 8 kms from here, allegedly consumed some poisonous substances last evening and today died in GMC Hospital, Jammu. Her body after postmortem was removed to her home town Dabbar on Nowshera-Seri-Sunderbani road. The relatives and parents of the girl, hailing from Doongi Garati village in Rajouri came to know about the matter and arrived there. They kept the body on the road and started protest alleging that their daughter was being harassed by the husband and in-laws and she was forced to commit suicide. They demanded that a murder case be registered against them and the accused be arrested.
With the protest on road, the movement of vehicles came to halt from 3.15 pm onward. Later, officiating SHO Nowshera and Naib Tehsildar reached the spot and they assured the agitating relatives to properly investigate the case and do justice. On the assurance of the officers, they lifted dharna after about two hours and allowed the movement of the vehicles. The relatives on parents side alleged that girl was being victimized on different pretexts and she had informed them on several occasions.
