JAMMU, June 9: With an aim to encourage professionalism in the field of Journalism, Press Club of Jammu is going to present Ashok Sodhi Memorial Award for best Photograph, on the martyr photojournalist’s birth anniversary falling on September 21.
“This is the new initiative of PCJ in the interest of entire Journalist fraternity and decision with regard to this event was taken in the Management Committee meeting chaired by the PCJ president Ashwani Kumar,” said Zorawar Singh Jamwal, secretary general of the Club.
The event will be an annual feature in which the selected photographs will be rewarded suitably with a citation. Cash prizes of Rs 11,000, Rs 8000 and Rs 5000 shall be given to Ist, 2nd and 3rd best photographs, respectively while five consolation prizes of Rs 2000 each will also be given.
The entries have been invited from across the State wherein not only the photojournalists but also the citizen journalists (other than journalists) can get themselves registered by August 15, 2015. There will be no specific theme for the photographs and those interested can get the forms on paying a nominal fee of Rs 100 at the Press Club of Jammu from June 15 onwards.
Senior and professional journalists comprising Raju Kerni, Mehraj Din, Channi Anand and Shishupal Sharma will be among the members of jury to adjudge the photographs.
Each participant can submit only one photograph (size 8″ x 10″) to the Press Club of Jammu on or before August 15, 2015.
Pertinent to mention that senior journalist and former Chief Photographer of Daily Excelsior, Ashok Sodhi, had attained martyrdom while performing his professional duties during a fierce encounter between militants and security forces at Samba on May 11, 2008.
