JAMMU, May 8: As a mark of respect to the founder of Red Cross Movement Sir Henry Dunant, World Red Cross Day was celebrated here today.
In a function at Jammu Head Quarters of the Indian Red Cross Society, Red Cross Day function started with a flag hoisting ceremony by chief guest Dr Pawan Kotwal, Divisional Commissioner, Chairman, Indian Red Cross Society, Region Jammu followed by Red Cross pledge and Prayer by the gathering led by students of Lawrence Public School, Jammu and Red Cross volunteers.
Floral Tributes were also paid by Dr Pawan Kotwal, ML Raina, Director, Rural Development Department, Ashwani Khajuria, RTO Jammu, RC Puri, Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu Region, Annil Suri, Dinesh Gupta, Sita Ram Sharma, Dr TR Raina, Navneet Kour, Members Executive Committee, IRCS Jammu Region and others.
Dr Pawan Kotwal said that there is much more scope of doing activities in a coordinated manner and more scientifically so that we reach and cover the maximum number of people who need Red Cross support.
Dr Pawan Kotwal honoured the active volunteers and social workers of Red Cross including ML Raina, Director, Rural Development Department, Jammu, Ashwani Khajuria, RTO Jammu, Colonel Romesh Daber, 162 Infantry Brigade, Dr Rajinder Thappa, CMO, SMGS Hospital, Dr ML Sharma, District Medical Officer, Rajouri (Retd), Dr Munish Manocha, Senior Orthopaedic Surgeon, Max Hospital, Amritsar, Prof Ashiq Malik, GCW, Gandhi Nagar, Ajit Singh, Zonal Incharge, Sant Nirankari Mandal, Jammu, Satish Gupta, Managing Director, Surya Milk, Jammu, Rajni Jain General Secretary, Mahavir International Society, Jammu Centre, Amit Verma, R Vijay Magotra, Vardhman Jain and Neha Thakur, Volunteer.
District Administration Udhampur organised a number of events to celebrate World Red Cross Day under the theme “Everywhere for Everyone”. A rally of Junior Red Cross and Senior Red Cross volunteers was organized, which was flagged-off by Chairman, District Red Cross Society and Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, Shahid Choudhary. The rally was followed by elocution and District Conference on achievements of District Red Cross Society. CEO Bishen Singh, CMO Dr Chander Parkash, Secretary Red Cross Dr VP Sharma, Superintendnet District Hospital Dr Narinder Bhutyal, Tehsildar Sapna Kotwal, CEO Municpal Council KK Chalotra, staff of various schools and colleges and life members as well as prominent citizens were also present. Advocate Swatantra Dev Kotwal conducted the proceedings of the conference.
District Red Cross Society celebrated World Red Cross Day in collaboration with Government Women College, Gandhi Nagar in college. Floral tributes were paid to founder of Red Cross Movement Sir Jeans Henry Dunant. Anuradha Gupta, ADC Jammu was the chief guest. Suresh Sharma, Executive Secretary, District Red Cross Society, Jammu presented the welcome address, followed by Red Cross song by Vidhi Jaswal and Anmol Jaswal and cultural items by students from various educational institutions. Jugal Mahajan, Veteran Red Cross Volunteer shared his experiences with the gathering and spoke on different aspects of Red Cross Society. Mementos were distributed among Campers of Kurukshetra Camp, HoDs of institutions who participated in folk dance competition in Red Cross Mela, HoDs who presented cultural items on World Red Cross Day, judges of symposia held in different institutions and Red Cross volunteers. Principal Government Women College Gandhi Nagar presented vote of thanks.
The students of Lawrence Public School, Panjtirthi participated in World Red Cross Day at Red Cross Bhawan, Kacchi Chawni. Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr Pawan Kotwal presented medals to students of the school namely Aijaz Hussain and Sukriti Gupta, who spoke on the this year’s Red Cross theme “Everywhere for Everyone”. In another program, the girls students of Lawrence Public School, Panjtirthi received Inter School Dance Competition prize on World Red Cross Day celebrations at GCW Gandhi Nagar.
International Red Cross Day was celebrated at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Sheesh Mahal Poonch, in which large number of students drawn from various institutions participated. The chief guest of the programme Lal Hussain, CEO Poonch introduced the concept of donation box in schools across the district and financial help to the needy students would be a real tribute to Henry Dunant. Narinder Mohan Suri, Principal, KK Kapoor, retd Dy CEP, Barkat Singh Azad, Retd DEPO, besides many others spoke on the occasion.
