REASI, Dec 18: A group of farmers and students from SKUAST-J visited here at Organic Centre, Talwara and interacted with the organic farmers of the area.
The exposure visit was organised by the Regional Centre of Organic Farming (RCOF), Panchkula in collaboration with SKUAST-J. The programme was organised under the guidance of Director Extension and Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-J, Dr K S Risam.
Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi, Dr Banarsi Lal e apprised the participants about the organic village Talwara. He said that KVK, Reasi is upgrading the knowledge of the farmers of the village through awareness/ training programmes, Front Line Demonstrations (FLDs), On Farmers Trials (OFTs) etc. specifically on organic farming. He narrated that KVK is making strenuous efforts to promote the eco-friendly agriculture so that the safe food can be produced in the region.
Dr Banarsi discussed on Farm Yard Manures (FYM), vermicompost, biofertlizers, biofungicides, biopesticides, cow urine, green manuring etc in the soil for the commercial organic farming. He talked on the crops rotation, pulses production, multiple cropping, microbial cultures etc in the organic farming. He also guided the participants on the communication in the agriculture and suggested them useful communication tactics to interact with the rural people.
Dr Shahina Tabassum, Scientist, RCOF,Panchkula said that Regional Centre of Organic Farming, Panchkula in collaboration with SKUAST-J has started the 30 days certificate course on organic farming at SKUAST-J to increase the organic crops production in the area.
