LEH, Apr 28: Reserve Bank of India (RBI) today organized a programme on Electronic Banking Awareness & Training (E-BAAT) and Foreign Exchange here.
The programme was attended by senior bankers from various banks and large number of students, trade representatives, public and academicians.
Deputy Governor, RBI, Harun R Khan, who was chief guest on the occasion, inaugurated the programme.
In his inaugural address, Khan dwelt at length on innovation brought about in the area of electronic products. He emphasized that the objective of less cash economy remains at the core of RBI focus and exhorted the participants to make use of e-products which are safe, economical, instant/real-time.
He urged the participants to educate their friends, colleagues, children about the e-products include NEFT, ECS, internet banking, mobile banking, use of plastic money and many other initiatives to help achieve the objective of maximising the potential of electronic banking.
Khan also indicated that a Digital Banking Plan for Jammu and Kashmir State with sub-plan for topographically challenged region like Ladakh is being launched. Improving connectivity will be a major plank of this plan. Implementation of this plan will involve active participation of all the stake holders like Central and State Governments, RBI, banks, technology, service providers telecoms, public institutions and general public, he added.
He also spoke about the changes and simplifications bought about in the area of foreign exchange particularly for resident and non resident individuals and small exporters. He said more such initiatives are underway to match the ambitious initiative of “Ease of Doing Business in India” by Government of India.
Earlier Sethy, Regional Director for Jammu and Kashmir while presenting welcome address said RBI, Jammu will push banking penetration in the State and take quality banking services to the door steps of the people.
A quiz programme was conducted by DK Kashyap, Deputy General Manager, RBI for the students of the GDC Leh. A presentation on e-products was made by Rakesh Raina, AGM, RBI.
R Vardarajan from HDFC Bank, Karanjit Singh from J&K Bank Limited, Ashok Razdan from SBI and Anil Reshi from RBI also spoke on the occasion.
Suresh C Sharma, General Manager initiated discussion on the E-BAAT and later presented vote of thanks.
