JAMMU, Apr 22: A deputation of Raghunath Bazar Businessmen Association (RBBA) led by its president, Baldev Khullar called on Commissioner of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Soujanya Sharma and raised certain issues pertaining to maintenance of various facilities and sanitation in and around the bazaar.
During the meeting, the RBBA deputation demanded upgrading of the public toilet (Sulabh Shouchalaya) already existing in the market at Partapgarh Lane to a modernized public utility with proper doors and shutters in place. The traders of the bazaar also demanded uprgadation of drainage system and floor tiling in the adjoining markets of the bazaar including Amar Market and Raghunath Market.
Lamenting that cleanliness and sanitation is not being properly and adequately maintained in the bazaar by the JMC staff in the field, the RBBA deputation demanded that an exclusive team of safai karamcharis in proper uniform headed by a supervisor (nigeraan) be deployed exclusively for the Raghunath Bazar. This team should provide round-the-clock (24-hour) service to maintain cleanliness and sanitation in the market with manpower change in shifts on the pattern of the safaiwallas deputed at Vaishnodevi track by the SMVDSB.
The deputation also demanded that once in a month, the JMC team should undertake washing of the main bazaar, pavements, and lanes and by lanes of the bazaar using disinfectant and detergent.
The traders also demanded installation of decorative lights in the new market adjacent to Raghunath Bazar.
