JAMMU, Dec 26: In order to check overcharging by pony/ pithoo wallas/palkiwalas on the track from Katra to Bhawan, District Development Commis-sioner, Reasi, Nirmal Sharma has imposed ban on such illegal practices within the territorial jurisdiction of district Reasi under Section 144 Cr PC.
The rates of pony-walas, pithoos and palkiwalas have been revised and enhanced almost double of the existing rates.
It is also informed that rates of tax/commission charged from yatries by the Municipal Committee will be 8% as against 12% charged earlier and Police Department will ensure that sufficient numbers of CCTVs are installed on track from Katra to Bhawan to check any malpractice like involvement of middlemen in getting prepaid slips for yatries for hiring pithoos/ponies/palkies, necessary signboards will be installed at prominent places from Katra to Bhawan to display the revised rates.
Police/EO Municipal Committee will ensure that yatries make the payment at the prepaid counters/check posts strictly as per notified rates for hiring ponies, pithoos and palkiwalas and do not enter into any sort of bargaining/dealing with pony/pithoo/palkiwalas.
She has asked the Executive Officer, Municipal Committee Katra to ensure that prepaid counters/check posts near Darshni Deodi, Banganga, Charan Paduka, Adhkuwari and Bhawan remain functional round the clock and made fully computerised to check the middlemen.
A committee comprising of Assistant Director Tourism, Naib Tehisildar Katra and representatives of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has been constituted to check any irregularities in this connection
The DDC said that if anybody found indulging in overcharging or any sort of malpractices will be dealt under Section 144 RPC.
