NAGROTA, July 9: Member Legislative Assembly and Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana today extensively visited Nagrota Assembly Constituency and took stock of the havoc created by incessant rains and flash floods.
The overnight rains have caused major damage to the water supply scheme resulting in acute shortage of tap water in Nagrota town and various other adjacent areas. He took up the issue with all concerned and personally supervised the restoration works. Keeping in view the dilapidated conditions of pipes laid for supplying water, he sought their immediate realignment so that such irritants don’t recur in future. He asked engineers to plan out drinking water supply in such a manner that it withstands the onslaught of torrential rains or flash floods in gushing nallas and streams.
Mr Rana also expressed deep anguish over disruption in communication system due to damages caused to main and interior roads at Jagti, Tanda, Simblelehar and Khanpur. He visited the affected areas and supervised the restoration work. He sought immediate repairs to the abetment of Narayan Bridge, which is nerve centre to many villages in the Constituency.
The Provincial President visited an injured inmate of a residential house at Tootan Di Khui which collapsed due to night-long rains. While urging the administration to provide immediate relief to the family, he sought restoration of the utility services especially the power, drinking water and roads on war-footing.
In his interaction with officials, the MLA emphasized the need for evolving a contingency plan to meet the eventualities during the upcoming monsoon. He said the critical areas needed constant vigil and round the clock monitoring so that the people do not suffer. He asked them to chalk out strategies about restoration works by taking the people into confidence. He also sought supply of drinking water through tankers wherever the supply has not been restored so far.
The Provincial President also sought creation of transformers’ bank at the tehsil headquarters so that replacements can be made on immediate basis.
While talking to people in the affected villages, Mr Rana said that he has already been in touch with concerned agencies and monitoring the situation arising in the wake of rains and floods. He said the damages caused to the infrastructure during last September are yet to be assessed and compensation provided to the people. He said the insensitive government has left the sufferers in lurch. The non-seriousness towards accumulating problems of the people speaks about the apathetic attitude of the Government, he maintained.
