The Ram Nath Shastri Memorial Award instituted by Dogri Sanstha Jammu is a befitting tribute to Doyen of Dogri Ram Nath Shastri who worked tirelessly for the promotion of Dogri in the region.
The award carrying a cash pize of Rs 21,000 shawl and a momento will bring recognition to the award nominee, besides encouraging him to work for the cause of Dogri.
It may be mentioned here that writers, poets in the State are a neglected lot and do not receive any credible official patronage. Even readers are apathetic towards writers by not going through their works. In case literature is to flourish in the State, it must receive Government and readers’ patronage.
Unless and until that happens there is no scope for development of literature in any language Dogri, Kashmiri or Ladakhi etc. The award instituted, hopefully, will kindle interest among readers for the local authors.
